We presented the main results of some of our work packages and also introduced a beta version of our pilot application for the management of publication-related research data in journals.
In preparation of the workshop we invited more than 30 editors of scholarly journals and almost a dozen scientists from 15 journals accepted our invitation. Most of these editors were from economic journals but also a small part of sociological journals took part. We were very pleased that so many journals were interested in the topic of our project.
The workshop started with some short introductions to the workshop’s agenda, the aims and overall mission of EDaWaX and to most of our work packages. After this general overview we had a more detailed look into the results of some of our work packages. We started with a presentation of a work package that dealt with incentive structures to promote data sharing. Also the findings of our study on data policies and replicable research in economics journals were outlined.
In the subsequent discussion many interesting aspects were raised by the workshop’s attendees.
After lunch we started with a presentation of the functional requirements for our software to manage publication-related research data in scholarly journals. The editors were asked to add other requirements if needed. Afterwards a demonstration of our software prototype followed. We illustrated the use cases and functionalities of our prototype that is based on CKAN.
The editors showed interest in the pilot application and gave important suggestions for future developments – e.g. a more detailed user management based on specific roles.
If some of our readers are interested in having a detailed look at the pilot application, feel free to get in touch with me. I will provide you with the URL so that you will be able to check what we’ve developed in the last time.
In the course of the next months, our project also will assist the editors of Schmollers Jahrbuch – Journal of Applied Social Science Studies in adapting a data policy and our application to their requirements.
Hopefully a second funding period will follow – our renewal proposal is currently under review.
The EDaWaX project would like to thank all our partners, readers, editors and collaborations for a very successful and enjoyable first funding period!
We would like to stay in touch with all of you – keep up the good work!
